Canon has made official the Canon T4i
Similar in many respects to the well loved Canon T3i but with some key differences
- Hybrid Sensor that allows continuous autofocus during video
- Silent autofocus when paired with new STM lenses*
- Digic 5 Processor, boosts ISO range to 12,800 (25,600 extended)
- 5 FPS
- 9 Point AF System
- Stereo Sound from on board Mic
- 1.04M dot articulated touch screen
Canon is trying to address the increased pressure from Sony’s newest Alpha series with their translucent mirror technology that allows for excellent AF during video and the encroaching mirror-less cameras, one of which Canon is rumored to be releasing later this summer. The T4i looks to be a solid progression forward, maybe not so much in the stills department, no huge changes there but significant upgrades for video shooters and now with the AF during filming this becomes a much easier device for parents and other amateurs to capture good video with stereo sound of their children.
*Couple the new Canon T4i with either of the new STM lenses and you get silent AF while filming. The new 18-135 also includes image stabilization for smoother video. The 40mm is a pancake lens – 22.8mm long. About a 1/3 of the size of the already pretty thin 50 f/1.8.
