Canon has announced v2 firmware for the Canon 7D – pretty significant changes, certainly a good bit better than the usual firmware that “corrects certain phenomenon”
Canon EOS 7D firmware v2 – new features:

- In-camera RAW image editing
- In-camera Image Rating
- In-camera JPEG resizing
- Maximum Auto ISO setting (ISO 400-6400)
- Manual audio level adjustment in movie recording
- GPS compatibility
- File name customisation
- Time zone settings
- Faster scrolling of magnified images
- Quick control screen during playback
The new Canon 7D firmware should be available starting in August – NOW AVAILABLE
Pretty impressive buffer now, makes this quick camera able to shoot quickly for even faster lengths of time. They mention improvements in the algorithm being responsible for the increased buffer – my skeptical self wonders if they could have released this camera with some of these changes in place and they choose to wait to keep the 7D relevant longer?
Used 7Ds are now selling around $1200 which is a great price, and should be considered by anyone also considering the 60D- 7D offers much higher FPS and buffer, especially with the new firmware. The camera is rugged and weather sealed and wonderful to hold in your hand – ergonomically speaking. As always I am happy to answer questions about this or the new T4i
