I could title this page Best Memory Card for the Canon T4i/T5i . but that would be link bait – this is more about comparing the couple of cards I had laying around to give you some ideas of the differences between cards and shooting RAW or JPEG.

I have been recommending the SanDisk Extreme 45MB/s Class 10 card for T4i/T5i and tonight I thought I would take a few moments and see how it compared to a few other cards I had laying around the house. My semi-scientific test was to stick a card in, shoot for 10 seconds on RAW and 10 seconds on JPEG and count how many photos I could get in that time frame. Bottom Line – If you are shooting JPEGs it doesn’t matter a whole lot but if you shoot RAW, and I recommend you do to get the highest image quality out of your camera, it matters a good bit what card you put into your Canon T4i/T5i (this also applies to other Canons and Nikon cameras too) Another component of the test that I didn’t record is the time it takes the buffer to clear after shooting, with the slower cards it is some time before you can take a burst again, much better with the faster cards.

    • In my only semi-scientific tests, yes. I think we are seeing the camera buffer and write speed being the bottle neck here. I would like to run the test a few more times to be sure but at the very least it doesn’t seem worth the extra cost

  1. It it pretty weird that the 95 MB/s sandisk is slower that the 45MB/s however these are the facts! thanks again! Your tests make my day!
