The Nikon D3100 is now selling for under $500 for camera and kit lens. This is quite a fantastic deal for someone looking to move up from a point and shoot camera and is on a tight budget. We often get caught up in the bells and whistles of newer cameras but the truth is all DSLRs in the last 5-6 years are capable of producing wonderful images and images that could easily be printed in large poster sizes and hung on your wall. The D3100 has been replaced by the D3200 but as I just said, the older one is still VERY capable of taking excellent photos and at one time was the camera many were clambering to own.
- 3″ LCD Sensor
- Includes 3x 18-55mm Lens with Image Stabilization
- Full 1080p HD Cinematic Video with full-time autofocus* and sound
- Easy-To-Use Nikon Guide Mode
- Uses SD cards – current promotion includes a free 16GB SD Card
That’s right, it is older but shoots 14 lovely MP and full 1080P video, so really no slouch. Downsides for photographers- none. Downside for videographers – no mic input so you are stuck with the mono input for video.
If not for you consider picking one up as a holiday present for the photographer in your life. It has been discontinued and as stock vanishes the price of new models is going to jump. If I were buying I’d grab the Nikon 35mm and I would have a lovely low light capable camera that can easily fit in a small bag.
There are several deals on other lenses too.
I am happy to answer questions about this camera or other!
