Does the greater number of focus points mean more will be in focus?

Often asked about Nikon having 39 focus points vs the 11 from Canon and relatedly I had someone comment that they always use all the focus points so that everything will be in focus.

#oink Farm life in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania ...That'll do, pig.
They all had dreams. They all had family. They died for us. Arlington National Cemetery is a heavy place, I can't help but think about all the pain and suffering when presented with row upon row of a headstone representing a fallen soldier and my mind boggles that this still happens today. On this little planet hurtling through an incomprehensible ginormous space - some people think it is ok to kill each other. :( p.s. You should google Cornelius H. Charlton - his story is interesting p.p.s My grandfather is buried in Arlington- my Mom's father was instrumental in designing and implementing early radar systems for the Navy in WW2. Captured with the #Sony #a7RII and #Canon #70200L at 200mm and f/3.2
#mondaymorningshare - I want to see your failed experiments or favorite photos from the last week. GO TO http://photorec.tv/fb to share your fav image from the past week. Here's my #failedexperiment The US Capitol at Sunset. File this under because I could - a 2 minute exposure with the use of a NISI Filters 10-stop ND. I hoped I would get some interesting wispy movement in the clouds but nothing developed. Next I tried a 6 minute exposure (swipe to see it) and while there may be a little more movement in the clouds it certainly wasn't anything to get excited about. And while I often recommend very carefully shooting building and monuments as symmetrically as possible, I purposefully shot from right of center to avoid losing Ulysses S. Grant statue in the front of the capitol. * Sony #A7RII and #Canon 2470mm with #NiSiFilters #10StopND

  1. interesting take on the AV mode…I am in the process of stepping out of auto into AV hoping to get into M in a couple months.

  2. Ditto AV mode. I normally always use it – I’m aware of the caveats about metering for 18% grey and adjust accordingly. But only today while practising with my new 70D, I found myself clicking away and hadn’t noticed I was overexposing as my ISO had been set too high. Maybe time to slow down and use manual.

  3. I think the reason slr’s aren’t selling as much is because technology hasn’t advanced enough I know a pro-tog using 5 year old cameras who says there isn’t enough of an improvement in the new cameras to justify another £1500 for a new camera.

  4. I’ll be heading to Europe for 2 months this summer and could really use a travel tripod! My Dolica AX620B100 is just too large and heavy for traveling!

  5. I really enjoyed your mish-mash this week. The part about the 70D and the AV mode were really interesting since I have been taking a lot of images in AV mode. Av mode has worked fine for me but you must be aware of your shutter speed. I have a 70D and I haven’t noticed this issue until it came up on the internet. I still can’t tell if my camera has this problem, but it will be interesting to see how Canon responds. Keep up the great videos

  6. Chimping refers to the sound that you make when your shocked to realize you have the correct exposure. When in Africa be careful when you do this because it is been rumored that it is similar to the mating call of the male chimpanzee.
