Costco deal is the same but comes with a crummy bag and SD card – The Amazon and B&H accessories are better and if you live outside of NY you don’t have to pay sales tax with B&H Photo

Not sure if the 70D is right for you? My Full Review of the Canon 70D

I am getting lots of questions about the best deal on the 70D – This camera is selling very well and it should. In my review I have found it to be an awesome device for photos and video, perfect blend of features and pro level performance in a reasonably sized and priced package. Watch my Canon 70D Review.

Costco is offering a bundled deal with the Canon 70D – Looks good at first glance but it has a couple of issues:

  1. You can put this exact same bundle together on Amazon for almost $100 savings!! (scroll down for details)
  2. The card they are bundling STRUGGLES TO SUPPORT the higher bit rate video files the 70D is capable of producing and slows down quickly when shoot RAW. See my full test chart of SD cards in 70D. Or just skip to bottom and buy the SanDisk Extreme 80 or 45s for better results.
  3. The 55-250 Bundled is the older II version.  The new STM version would be worth your money if you plan to do video with the lens. In fairness Amazon is still bundling this lens too.  At this time the 55-250 STM (my review coming soon) needs to be bought separately.

On Amazon you can get the Canon 70D with 18-55 IS STM and the 55-250 for a savings of $105.  Add in the 2% rewards and in 35 days you will get $27.88 to spend on a spare 70D Battery or put toward a good tripod.  But more importantly those immediate savings need to be put toward an SD Card that WILL work well in your 70D.

  1. First off thank you for the help. Been looking for the best bundle with this camera. You said he one bundle had the old lens, what about the other bundle? Also looking for a backpack for my new bundle, what would you suggest? Thanks

  2. Hello,

I was wondering how you upload you DSLR photos to instagram. Since their is no desktop uploader for instagram, do you send them to your phone and then upload them, or what?

    Thanks

  3. Hello Toby,
First of all I would like to thank your for nice work and detailed and precise suggestions.
I am interested in buying “Canon 70D+EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM Kit” and “Canon EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM lens”.

    1. Is this the appropriate combination I should opt for?
    2. Is Amazon still giving any promotional offer, because I’m not getting any when i bundle these items.

    • Hi Akram,

That is a great combo – this is a camera that will LAST and provide you with some sweet photos and video. Amazon says they are still giving the discount but I tried just now and it doesn’t look like it actually works. Luckily B&H another respected photography store that I buy from is offering the discount – the two together total $1448 Buy Canon 70D at B&H includes the following for free Ruggard Commando 36 DSLR Shoulder Bag, SPARE Watson LP-E6 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.4V, 1750mAh) and a SanDisk 16GB SDHC Extreme Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card. Let me know if you have any questions.

UPDATE: It does still work on Amazon – they have changed the code you need to apply. It is now LA3CLUO3 The B&H Deal is still the easiest method with the fewest clicks.

  4. Thank you Tobi. I just ordered it, let me experiment with its different functionalities and i’ll bug you with my questions. I have checked your youtube channel your videos are very helpful.
    Thanks,
    Akrama

  5. Thank you Tobi. I just ordered Canon70D with kit, let me experiment with its different functionalities and i’ll bug you with my questions. I have checked your youtube channel your videos are very helpful.
    Thanks,

  6. Yep… Deals are dwendling. I was able to get the 32gb card, battery, lens and monopod but missed out on the bag, multiple cards (tried the 16 as well) and the “bonus” savings. Now it just hurts to know they were doing that! Now I need to actually order after I load up with a gift card. 🙂

  7. And I think I’m going with the 70D over the T5i after reading some additional reviews and the video abilities of the two. I was looking at the T5i or 60D (from my posts on YT) but after reading more and looking at features and watching your comparison video of the T5i/70D, I think I’m sold. I just need to sell the wife but that shouldn’t be too difficult. 🙂

    • If you plan to do video the 70D really is the way to go – it is going to be a long time before you outgrow that camera. You got kids? This is the way to document their growth 🙂 Always appreciated if you use my links for purchase – 70D on Amazon And of course happy to answer any questions now or when you get your camera. I am working on a 70D user guide – sign up to be notified at http://photorec.tv/newsletter/ Thanks!

  8. Wll do. I have one on the way in a little over a month, which is why I want the video portion and the prime lens that I also purchased for the Xsi. I was looking on Amazon to see what the T5i package deal was and it’s just the lens, no add-ons worked. Hopefully the 70D stuff stays out there for a slight bit longer.

  9. I have been really thinking about the the right camera and the right lenses that would fit my needs. Decided on the Eos 70d with the 18-135mm lens and also getting the ef 40mm STM lens. Just wanted some reassurance that I am getting the best deal out there with B&H for $1540. This photography stuff is all new to me but I have been watching your videos for the past 2 weeks to help me decide because only your videos make sense to me. So it is the kit with the bag, SD card, extra battery and purchasing the 40mm lens separate. Thanks for your help.

      • Canon EOS-70D with 18-135STM for $949 (without need for any mail-in rebates)

I have narrowed down my search for the camera and lens to Canon 70D with the 18-135mm kit for my first DSLR purchase.

What do you feel about the deal for Canon EOS-70D with 18-135STM for $949 at the below website compared to the deal in Adorama that is mentioned on your site. They are also including a tripod, cleaning kit.

        http://www.ajrichie.com/Canon-EOS-70D-with-18-135mm-STM-f-3-5-5-6-Lens/p-3998

        • Hi – I am sorry to say that AJrichie is a scam site. You order and they call you up and convince you that you need to add additional stuff and soon you have bought more than you started with. I think Adorama, B&H or Amazon are the safe bets even if it doesn’t seem as cheap.

  10. Hi, Toby

Been looking at our videos on YT and reading up some articles here on your website. First off, thanks for providing all this information. Your videos are great and well thought out with easy to understand information. I have one question for you around the 70D. I am set on the 70D with a 55-250 IS STM, but I cannot decide which of the 18-55mm IS STM or the 18-135mm IS STM to add to my bundle. Which one should I pick and why, assuming we’ll mostly be doing portraits, some outdoor (sports, nature etc.) and using the 55-250 STM for videos. Sincere thanks for the advice.
