Sony 200-600 vs Sony 100-400 + 1.4x Extender - Easy Choice

A few photos I captured on our Arctic 2022 Workshop with the 200-600. I continue to be impressed with this lens and you can get used to the weight :). - More sample photos below.

The Sony 200-600 vs the Sony 100-400

The Sony 200-600 is a fantastic lens for wildlife if you don’t mind the size and the weight and long minimum focusing distance.

The Sony 100-400 is a fantastic versatile telephoto - great for landscapes, portraits and some wildlife. And it is nicely compact and travel-friendly. But the 100-400 costs $500 more and paired with the 1.4x extender (for 560mm) is an expensive combo at $3000 and while the results are very similar the 200-600 does offer better aperture at the long end.
