Quick Prints on the Go!

In a world where we're always on the go sometimes it's nice to be able to print while we're out as well. With recent travels I have quickly made some friends by providing a print - sharing a phot with your subject is a nice gesture and really helps make a connection.https://www.instagram.com/p/BeDs5wAnomb/?taken-by=photorectobyThe ability to take something from your camera, edit it on the go, and print within a few minutes while at a location. A keepsake for you, or in the case of a McKay Photography Academy Tour, a really great souvenir you can pass out to someone nice enough to pose for a shot.https://www.facebook.com/david.mckay.5682/posts/10213396792028253?pnref=story

If you want something a bit more customizable you can't go wrong with this pocket-sized printer. The Polaroid Zip is a great way to get those photos off in about a minute. The 2 x 3" prints are waterproof and ready to go once they pop out.Photos are transferred via Bluetooth from your phone making smartphone shots easy enough to edit and print. As for your camera, if it has the ability to send a photo to your phone or you have a card reader your all set. Take a shot on your nice DSLR, send to phone, edit, and print.Available at Amazon & B&HPrint Refill - Amazon | B&H

Fuji Instax Cameras

While the Polaroid Zip offers customizability it can be a bit much getting it going, sometimes you just want the shot (or you hate all that technology). That's where the Instax cameras come in as our top choice for instant cameras and a great present for kids as well. Snap the shot and out it comes a 2.4 x 1.8" print just like the Polaroid's of the past. All while being small enough to throw in a pocket or your bag.FYI: With the Mini 70 you will need to pick up a few more CR2 Batteries from Amazon, otherwise, the Mini 90 comes with a rechargeable battery.

prints_5x7_470x470_07192016The Service will be Prime and Amazon Cloud Drive only. With the change to photo printing Amazon is also killing off the $12 per year Amazon Unlimited Photos plan. Users are getting a three or 12 month trial of unlimited storage after their paid plans expire as recompense from Amazon. This was a nice backup solution for photographers but with the move to printing it makes sense to bundle the service driving more users to upgrade plans. As for cost that means just to access this service it is $60 for the cloud service, $100 for Amazon prime, or $49 for Amazon Prime for students. You’ll have to wait for a proper review by Toby but odds are the quality will be lower end equal to Shutterfly at this price comparatively to other brands. Typically Photorec.tv’s current recommendation for good quality prints has been Adoramapix for their superior prints and sales. Alternatively for small orders Bayphoto is a nice option as through their professional order system small orders of prints 11x14 or smaller ship free through the mail. Bayphoto just isn’t cost effective for large orders due to the price difference between their service and Adoramapix. Just like Shutterfly it's not that it's necessarily bad, but for top quality it's recommended to go to a lab for photos. For family shots and prints to pass out to friends, family, and the sort it's a cheap option that might serve that purpose well. untitled-1For a limited time, free standard shipping. Free expedited shipping on orders over $15. It’ll take 167 4x6 prints to get free shipping if you're curious. Compared to Adoramapix or Shutterfly it’s actually a pretty decent rate.

As for saving money I’ve got a few tricks to get your print price under Amazon’s:

  • Six cent 4x6 prints from Shutterfly are possible during 101 print sales by ordering 99. This lowers the shipping and makes 99 prints cost 6 cents each versus 101 for 8 cents a piece.
  • My Coke Rewards through collecting cap and box codes allows promotional coupons making prints, books, and other items free but you have to pay shipping. Similar to the method above in that you still pay shipping but you don’t have to wait for a sale or can combine these with one.
  • Swagbucks is an ad and survey site that gives out Shutterfly gift cards for doing tasks. They also do Paypal and other stores so technically you can use this one on any site's I've listed above in this post.
