Two impressive facts about this camera - A new full frame camera being offered at $1299* and the body size and weight is smaller/less than the Canon Rebel DSLR line.*And that $1299 price includes EOS R adapter to fit EF lenses and a small colored grip too.Full Spec List
26.2MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor

DIGIC 8 Image Processor
Dual Pixel CMOS AF
2.36m-Dot Electronic Viewfinder
3" Vari-Angle Touchscreen LCD
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Connectivity
I liked the Canon EOS R but felt that at $2399 it wasn't a great value - mostly an AF system that just wasn't as fast as I would like and beaten solidly by the Sony a7iii in AF performance and 4K video. But this RP at $1000 less in a smaller lighter package becomes very compelling. The RP is still going to have the those Continuous AF issues and the crop when shooting 4k is annoying but again, at this price point I can forgive those issues - no other full frame camera is offered at this price point.Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Digital Camera (Body Only) $1299- includes EOS R Adapter- Includes EG-E1 Extension GripCanon EOS RP with 24-105 RF $2199 (Excellent Value)- includes EOS R Adapter- Includes EG-E1 Extension Grip

I am an android user I bought into the pixel line because it offered one of the most affordable flagship phones with a fantastic camera. Now with the launch of the Pixel 3 do I still feel the same?
It wasn’t just the camera that appeals to me about the pixel line - as an Android user the pure Google experiences, the frequent updates, knowing that at least for the next year or so you will get a phone that stays current.
Now I have the pixel 3 XL - provided by google - I wasn’t actually planning on upgrading - my Pixel 2 was still good enough - or I should say almost good enough - My biggest issue was the screen brightness - outside for photos or as a screen when flying the drone - it was not as bright as I would like and as good as the camera is - I do wish it had a more manual friendly control -
The screen - this is a beautiful screen on the 3 - it’s vibrant, bright I enjoy using it outside in bright sunlight and it feels color accurate, not overly saturated.
The clean google experience. I can uninstall every app on this phone, there is no annoying skin on top of the Android experience
Call Screening - this is so cool. I have a call, not sure who it is - hit the screen call button and the assistant picks up with a recorded message - the callers' message will then be transcribed in real time letting me decide if I want to answer it.
Battery Life - just good solid performance and the addition of wireless charging is nice. This brings the pixel 3 in line with other flagship phones.
I do worry about future-proofing. With just 4GB of RAM in the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL when most are now offering 6 or in the next year or so 8. But at this time this phone is very snappy and I see no issues.
I did have some speaker crackling in the first few days and that has settled down and as other reviewers have mentioned - at higher volumes the back of the phone vibrates but I don’t really use the speakers at that level so it hasn’t bothererd me.
I do seem to fight the portrait vs horizontal rotation more often than I want which is annoying and then sometimes it seems to need a smack to know I have set it back upright/
It’s just really good. Consistently excellent results with fantastic dynamic range. And that new Night shot mode that is coming is stunningly good. It’s some kind of voodoo magic good - THAT GOOD.
Pixel 3 on the left Sony a7RIII on the right!
Portrait mode where Google uses the algorithm to determine the subject and artificially blurs the background has noticeably improved and gives me good, consistent results. And even though this is called portrait mode you can use it on anything at all.
You can now easily switch the camera to capture RAW and what I found on the pixel 2 - Capturing RAW photos wasn't worth it - the dedicated image processor inside deals with noise and detail better than any post-processing software you can throw the image into but the RAWs from the Pixel 3 are a different story - these are RAWs that look great and respond well to editing. But I still find that the JPEG processed by Google is fantastic and I rarely want to edit the images.
The camera continues to impress me the only areas it is lacking - close focusing is limited compared to some other flagship phones BUT if you use the super zoom feature you can get some stunning results. With any system, if you want awesome macro with this phone consider picking up the Moment lens macro.
Basic Controls - the camera app is clean and streamlined but I do wish you could switch to a more manual friendly control - I find that useful for focusing and playing with slightly longer exposures - the Huawei Mate 10 pro I reviewed earlier this year allows 30 second exposures, The Note 9 from Samsung allows 10 seconds in pro mode. The Pixel 3 is limited to 1/4 second and you have to use a 3rd party app it's not a deal breaker but having that control greatly improves the flexibility and versatility of this camera. Still - an all-around impressive camera at a price that I find a bit more reasonable than many of the competitors. If image quality is an important factor in your purchase of a phone - the Pixel 3 will make you happy.

The Canon EOS R - Canon Reimagining the Future! Be the RevolutionStressing that you should ADD this to your kit. It is NOT replacing the current EOS system.
FULLY COMPATIBLE with CURRENT EF and EF-S lenses! No compromising when you use adapters. (my experience is a slight, very slight compromise)
Three adapters maintaining all current lens systems
Standard (small compact adapter)
Standard with customizable control ring (also found on the new RF mount lenses) - Control ring can be assigned a variety of functions from ISO to Exposure Compensation
Adapter with drop-in CPL or ND filter lens. This lets you use small rear filters with ANY lens.
Same diameter lens mounts with a decreased distance to the sensor.
Decreased distance means the front element can be smaller and more compact.
Enhanced overall optical performance. Easier to offer f/1.2 lenses
12 electronics contacts offer the fastest communication of any Canon mount system and enhanced IS in future
New Multifunction slide control - Customizable with swipe and left or right tap actions. After using this feature for a few days I am not a fan. Learn more in this video.Very customizable in general - even the mode dial can be assigned a different function and customizability extend to different functions for buttons when you are in photo andvideo modes.New Flexible Priority(FV) AE mode - A slightly more automatic manual mode - You choose what to adjust and rest of settings will follow suit. A faster way to switch which setting you want. That fully articulating touchscreen experience that so many love that Canon provides very well. The touchscreen can also function as a touchpad (when you are using the EVF)EVF is big, bright and beautiful. Good display of info inside that is customizable with the level of info.Low light focusing capable to -6 EV with a f/1.2 lens VERY IMPRESSIVE. Also offers Eye AF or Face detect but I found Eye AF to be finicky and Eye AF does not work in Continuous AF mode. The BadOne Card Slot (this make the camera less exciting for many professionals)Eye AF does not work but face detection works very well.AF is good but not fast and burst rate with continuous AF falls to just 3 fps.No built-in intervalometer but there is time-lapse movie mode.Strength - Canon shooter with existing lenses looking for the future of the Canon system - this is a solid start. I think we will see a more pro level version within the next year if not sooner. The Canon EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera is scheduled to be available in October 2018 for an estimated retail price of $2299 for the body only. I have also been testing the SmallRig L-Bracket system for my Sony a7RIII for a few months and I love thisL_Bracket. It provides a small amount of additional grip, making the camera more comfortable and the Arca Swiss bottom and side plate make tripod mounting easy. The side plate is adjustable or you can remove it completely. The included hex wrench is magnetically attached to the bottom making sure it is always available. I am used to high-quality L brackets costing several hundred dollars. This SmallRig bracket is just $47!! It attaches through the tripod socket and sits very securely at the base of your camera. Remember the weakest point in weather sealing on the Sony cameras is the bottom, attaching the SmallRig L-Bracket raises the camera off whatever surface you place it on, add additional protection. I no longer worry about where I am setting my camera down.Learn More at SmallRig

The Nikon Z7 and Z6 mirrorless cameras have been officially announced - After months of teasing we have an official announcement, photos, specs and most of the answers - I say most because we only have a few early hands-on. I will be back with a full hands-on soon. I will say if you are even a little on the fence - get your pre-orders in - if this camera is going to be anything like the D850 supply/demand situation, over a year after the D850s release we still don't see that camera consistently in stock. There are two features some of you may consider deal breakers!

Fully weather sealed on par with D850 which is to say excellent. 45.7MP FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor - very similar to what we have in the D850 and when I did my hands on review of the D850 I found the image quality to be excellent4K 30/25/24fps Video with the option of N-Log & 10-Bit when recording externally493-Point Phase-Detect AF System - If you are curious about mirrorless vs DSLR focusing system I wrote a complete overview of these systems and its available on the Photo Enthusiast Network. 5 Axis BIVR - BBuilt-InVibration Reduction. Similar to the Sony system - I have had success hand holding shots shots as slow as 1/3 of a second. Note when using the Z mount adapter you only get 3 axis IBIS. 3.6 million EVF - similar to Sony but early reports sound like it feel bigger with a good amount of customization on what you can display in there3.2" 2.1 million-dot Tilting FULLY touch, touchscreen - menus, quick info bar all accessible via touch. Does not function as a touch pad as you get with the Nikon D5600 and Sony a7iii and a7Riii series. 9 fps - Buffer fills up at just 18 frames & I believe the fps drops when you are running continuous AFONE memory card slot - XQD*
*XQD cards are more robust and faster and a bit more expensive than SD cards. I think out of all the specs the fact that we have just one memory card slot has been the most controversial - you have those pros that say in 30 years they have never had a memory card fail. And you have those that have had cards faily yesterday and there is no way they will take on a pro level gig without dual memory cards. I would love to know your opinion. I have had cards fail but never lost an image. Recently I had the 2nd slot on my Panasonic GH5 fail and it no longer reads any cards. I am very grateful I had two slots as I was in the middle of an epic trip when it happened. Is this a Deal Breaker? Battery life is rated at just 300 shots. Sony a7RIII is rated at 600 but I know I get far, far more and can almost always make it through a full day of shooting with a single battery - I suspect the Nikon will be much better than the 300 it is rated at - and it’s nice that they are continuing to use the EN 15L battery BUT if you want to charge it in camera, which this camera now supports - you will need to buy the updated B version of the battery. So older batteries will work but will not charge in camera. Is this a Deal Breaker? No Eye-AF which I love and use often with my Sony a7RIII but it sounds like the face detect AF is very good and AF in general is VERY good but quite a bit different from your options as DSLR shooter used to Nikon. - I am excited to test all the AF system with the native lenses and adapted lens. Video focus sounds VERY good on par with Canon’s dual pixel AF which is the best out there.
The Z6, which isn’t going to be released until Nov 30 has the same form factor but offers 25MP, 273-Point Phase-Detect AF System and looks like it will do noticeably better in low light. It is capapble of up to 12fps - no word on the buffer size at this time.Body only $1996 and with 24-70 $2596Nikon Z6 Body Only | Body + 24-70 f/4 Z Mount Lens | Body + 24-70 f/4 + FTZ Adapter Kit
Nikon Z Mount 24-70 F/4 LensNikon Z Mount 50mm f/1.8S LensNikon Z Mount 35mm f/1.8S Lens And word of development of a 58mm f/.95 lens (coming in 2019) Fastest lens Nikon has ever made BUT it is manual focus only. It looks beautiful, will have the little OLED distance focus indicator like some of the Batis lenses.
They released a full lens road map - There are some serious lenses coming but you will be waiting and I don’t see anything longer than 200 on the horizon and as good as the AF performance has been stated with the adapter - i would be cautious buying into this system until we hear more. I am really curious to see what we will get from Sigma and other third party lenses - will they make their own adapter or will they create native mount glass and the more immediate question - how will existing third party, F-mount lenses work with the current adapter? I am going to assume it’s going to be hit or miss for now but again that’s a wait and see questions. What are you most excited about? When do you think we will hear from Canon with a full frame mirrorless.
The Sony RX100 Mark 6 Reviewhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4D-DoMz54zYI have been shooting with the Sony RX100 VI now for a few weeks and I impressed with the zoom AND the quality that they have packed into this little, easily pocketable, camera. If you want the smallest P&S with excellent quality and a ton of zoom - the new Sony RX 100 VI offers a very versatile and powerful camera packed into a tiny body. Having that range from 24-200 makes this camera useful for just about anything, even wildlife. The Good (Sony RX 100 VI)
24 - 200mm range
20MP with very good low light capabilities for such a small sensor
24fps with Phase detect AF - excellent tracking and eye-Af
UHD - 4k with S-log, HDR Video, and Super Slow 960fps
180° Touch Screen
The Bad (Sony RX 100 VI)
No mic jack for better audio
Poor battery life
Pricey

Sony RX 100 VA - This is the previous model with a few updates. Sony did this to give you the choice, do you need a big zoom? Get the new VI or do you need less zoom and better low light? Get the VA which offers a 24-70 f/1.8-2.8 lens.Sony RX 100 IV - Honestly these little cameras haven't changed much in the last few versions, until they added the massive range to the latest, mark 6 - so if you just want a good P&S the IV and even the III is still a decent camera and saves you significantly.Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS200 - 1-inch High Sensitivity MOS sensor and a 15x optical zoom lens for 20.1MP photos. Fireworks are fun to shoot and a challenge as well relying on a bit more knowhow to get them right in camera. Congrats to this week's top picks with some great shots for competition in this month-long challenge! Next Week's Challenge: #PRTV_bokeh2Next up, your challenge gets a bit blurry with bokeh! Bokeh used creatively can be a tool to separate your subject from their background to make them stand out or add a bit of flair with bokeh balls. Try it this week and post those shots on Instagram with #PRTV_bokeh2!

I use the Sony 1.4x and 2.0x Teleconverters with the Sony 100-400GM Lens and share results on image quality, focus speed and focus performance while searching the Arctic for polar bears. Tested with the Sony a7RIII and Sony 100-400 GM paired with the 1.4x Tele and 2.0x Tele.https://youtu.be/A6Seehp2imkI found the optical performance of the 1.4x and 2x teleconverters when matched with the Sony 100-400 GM to be absolutely fantastic. Colors, contrast, and clarity all remain excellent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgXVP09xK-gDJI Summer Sale - ENDS TODAY JULY 17thWe are often asked for recommendations on drones. DJI continues to dominate the market with excellent drones that offer great quality and are really easy to fly. In this video, I share seven reasons that you may want the smaller, more portable Mavic Air over the still portable but noticeably larger, Mavic Pro.
Portability - Mavic air takes it to another level in portability
The Mavic air folds down to a ridiculously small size. The controller features removable sticks and the batteries are significantly smaller. All of that adds up to a drone that takes up noticeably less space in your bag but still gives you the same image and video quality.
Image and video quality is a little better in the Mavic air and Air offers better slow-mo features at 120fps vs 96 in the
The smaller Mavic Air has a slightly better processor - in my tests most photos and video looked identical with some Air shots looking just a tiny bit better. And in video mode the Mavic Air offers 120fps slow-mo vs just 96fps offered by the Mavic Pro.
Cost - Mavic Air is cheaper especially when you add up extras
With today's sale this isn't true but usually, the Mavic Air is cheaper and the batteries are cheaper, accessories are cheaper - it's starting to add up to some significant savings.
Additional Quick shot modes
Some of these are a bit of a gimmick but they do make it easy, and fun to create quick snapshots of your surroundings. Check out this recent Asteroid Quick shot mode from Nevada https://www.instagram.com/p/BjSrhJOHLUd/?taken-by=photorectoby
Rear obstacle avoidance
You should always be aware of your drone and its surroundings but there are times when maybe you think you know how close you are to that bush or tree and it turns out much closer than you thought. The Mavic Pro only has forward sensing obstacle avoidance and the Air provides sensors on the front AND THE REAR! This means you are less likely to crash it when flying backward.
Works without a controller
The Mavic Air is capable of take off, photo and video capture and landing all with gestures. No controller needed, not even your phone needed. It is impressive when you want to travel VERY light and just get some quick shots of you in a location.
Built-in memory
The Mavic Air is the only DJI Drone to include 8GB of onboard memory - this is a great fail safe if you end up leaving the house without a microSD card.
Occusyn technology for control and video transmission
This means you get cleaner video feed at 1080 vs just 720 from the air - and it supports longer distances. In some European countries, the wifi connectivity of the Mavic air may be more limited.
Longer flight time
The Mavic Pro is capable of 23 minutes. The Mavic Air tops out at 18 minutes. I find that I often get the shots I need within 16 minutes and land the drone with 30% battery to be safe. Using that math I would be a little more rushed with the Mavic Air to get the necessary shots.
More maneuverable gimbal - flying forward you can keep the gimbal pointed up higher than you can on the Mavic air
This is one of the biggest differences - when flying forward at normal speeds (not slow) the tilt of the Mavic Air gimbal is NOT sufficient to keep a level shot - you end up shooting downward. The Mavic Pro gimbal tilt has a larger range and allows you to keep the horizon in the shot when flying forward.
Mavic pro is a bit quieter - really it is a deeper pitch which sounds quieter.
The actual decibel difference is very small but the deeper hum sound from the Mavic Pro blends in with the background better. Important if you don't want to annoy your neighbors.DJI Summer Sale - ENDS TODAY JULY 17thWhich drone would/did you pick and why?
