Captured with the Mavic 2 Pro - Awesome for sunsets
The Mavic 2 Zoom is not currently discounted - at $1429 it is not a drone that I typically recommend over the Pro version. Having the zoom is nice but the larger sensor in the Pro model makes it much better for photos. If you plan to ONLY do video you may find the zoom capabilities more useful but not enough that I would recommend it over something like the Autel Evo.
#2 Autel Robotics EVO Quadcopter
4k at 60fps with a smart controller makes this $999 price even more attractive.
I tested the Autel Evo earlier this year and was impressed! This drone is capable of 4k at 60fps. DJI’s Mavic series max out at 4k at 30fps. 60fps is nice to capture more crisp action or playback at 1/2 speed which can often make the footage look just that much more epic. It’s not a big deal but it does give you, as a content creator, additional flexibility. For photographers, the quality is on par with the original Mavic Pro or the current Mavic Zoom. But this drone does have a few advantages beyond the 4k at 60fps.

#3 DJI Mavic Pro (Fly More Combo)
Yes, this older drone released in2016 is on my list in 2019! I still own this drone and it still provides excellent results. The Fly More package provides everything you need - including a total of THREE batteries for just $929! This is only slightly more than the Mavic Air and unlike the Mavic Air this drone uses Occusync technology which provides a crystal clear video feed to your smartphone/controller - letting you see exactly what you are filming with no issues - it also means you easily maintain control of the drone at ridiculously long distances - miles!! The Mavic Air Fly More Combo is about the same price and does provide it all in a smaller package - but its reliance on WIFI connection means shorter range and more interference depending on where you fly. I really like the Mavic Air but at this price, the original Mavic Pro is my pick.
#4 DJI Mavic Mini
The Tiny and Lightweight Mavic Mini is easy to fly
The brand new, under 250g, drone from DJI is just $399! I have been flying mine for almost two weeks now and I am very impressed. Despite its tiny size and weight, this drone can perform. The interface is simple and the flight is easy. Image quality is similar to the original Mavic Pro and the Mavic Air and video quality is good but does not offer 4k. 2.7k is the highest resolution. The weight means you do not need to register with the FAA and because it is so lightweight I predict you will throw this in your bag on most trips - it weighs only slightly more than a large smartphone! Did I mention it is easy to fly - No other drone at this price point provides this easy to use interface with GPS for precision flight and one-touch landing.

#5 - Just for Fun - the DJI Tello Iron Man
Currently on sale for $89. This colorful drone is more than a fun toy- it teaches the beginnings of drone flight and while it doesn’t have GPS it does provide a vision positioning system to ensure stable hovering. The small size and prop guards make this easy to fly inside - It does include a camera capable of 720p and 5mp photos. Paired with an app that provides missions, you ( I mean your kids ;) can feel like a superhero!

It is expected that this lens will be a 100mm Macro f/2.8 and arrive this summer. The lens will offer, in Samyang's own words - "With immense focus and unparalleled features" All Samyang lenses are manual focus and do not offer IS. This allows them to offer affordably sharp glass that budget photographers and videographers love. I am curious how this lens will offer "immense focus and unparalleled features" Do you have any idea? I do expect it will be sharp and for most serious macro work manual focus is preferred but the rumor is currently a higher price than most Samyang offerings - maybe as high as $800 putting it on par with the excellent

As we've had more than a few people starting out ask, and sometimes buy, the questionable camera kits found online this article might help clarify a few things for any first time DSLR buyers. For most cases, with a few exceptions for the larger stores, you get the right camera with little or no warranty and an assortment of poor quality accessories. For the purpose of having an example to this point I’ll be using a recent eBay purchase from one of our readers.Grey Market ProductsFor a first time buyer noticing the word import buried in the details of a really good sale is not going to be something they’re looking for usually. Generally for some of the stores it’s often hidden well enough it would be easy to gloss over without knowing the implications and some stores don’t mention it at all. Imports are commonly referred to as grey market, a product imported from another country for a lower price then resold here bypassing proper import channels such as Canon USA and Nikon USA. While the practice is somewhat shady it’s completely legal and most of the time, but not always, the camera is the same as what you would get from an authorized store such as Amazon.
Yes you’re getting a DSLR but before purchasing and when you get the camera you should check the included accessories listed with the camera against the manufacturer’s website. If you think you purchased from an authorized dealer the first hurdle would be the correct warranty card for your country, without it getting your camera fixed can be difficult. Checking the listing for issues can solve a lot of problems but after getting your camera its worth that double check for the correct manuals and manufacturer batteries as with some previous cases these items have been removed or replaced with inferior items.
Check the kit lens! A lot of these cameras were bought body only so make sure you’re getting the proper lens. The Nikon D5300 should come with a new VRII 18-55mm lens which in the readers case was swapped for the older VRI lens that ships with the D5200, a lens which is not recommended if possible due to its photo quality. Take the time to check your lenses, a D5300 uses AF-S lenses and not AF except for manual focus. Kit lenses for the Canon Rebel line should be listed as STM.One of the issues you can have buying a unit of this kind is the battery charger, fortunately in this case the readers was swapped for a US charger but reading online about this listing not everyone got that luxury. The camera was meant for another country so it’s not a big surprise you're still out money for a charger in Nikon’s case, for Canon $4-6 for a 2 slot non-polarized power cord to plug in the charger. Unfortunately for someone starting out unless they can find one at a local store you’re stuck waiting for one in the mail with a nice shiny paperweight after that partial battery charge dies.“Free” Extras
There's no such thing as a free lunch, if your kit comes with 3000 items yet still costs the same as an authorized camera from B&H things don’t exactly add up. A memory card, cleaning cloth, bag, and maybe an extra battery makes a decent starting point. Starting out most of the accessories they offer are nice and shiny but they are also cheap items, most of these are less than $10, with negligible quality in most cases. While I won’t cover all the accessories in the kit I’ll hit a few of the frequently asked ones and provide alternative options. While the recommended options might be a bit more expensive the quality is worth the price to get good items the first time.
