You might have noticed the lens and camera announcements have been fast and furious over the last week as we lead up to CP+ - A big international photo show held in Japan. First we had the Canon 80D, then the new Tamron prime lenses, Sigma's new lenses (cameras too) and the Sigma to FE mount adapter, Panasonics new 12-60 lens and now SIX new cameras from Nikon. Three are boring Coolpix P&S cameras but the three pictured above is a new line from Nikon - the DL Series. These are all use a 20.8MP CX-format sensor - that's a 1 inch sensor similar to the Sony RX 100 line - clearly a competitor Nikon has set their sights on. Additionally and like the Sony each of these cameras is capable of shooting 4K video. Wifi/NFC, 120fps at 1080p round out the main features. The also all share flip up (or flip out0 touchscreens. The differences? Focal range/zoom really with a few additional features to support each range. Nikon DL18-50 f/1.8-2.8 Digital Camera Pre Order from B&H Photo - Available June, 28 2016 for $846Highlight Feature: Perspective Control - accurately depict architectural subjects and correct converging lines. My own notes - This may be the new perfect vlogging camera - starting at that wide 18mm is great for hand holding and talking to the camera. I don't know of anything else that starts as wide with this sized sensor in a compact body.
Built-in ND filter for maintaining slower shutter speeds or wider aperture settings in bright conditions.
A Super Macro mode and Focus Bracketing features are also available for producing close-up imagery with life-size magnification with extended depth of field.
My Own Notes - If you don't need the wider 18mm of the first model this price is hard to beat - a great focal range, ND filter And the macro mode all for $646!
Sport VR mode - optimized for shooting sports or other fast-moving subjects and helps to keep the built-in 2.359m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder or rear LCD's image stable while panning
My Own Notes - Impressive zoom and glad to see they have added an additional VR to keep it all stable. Pricey though!
Additionally Nikon will be offering an electronic Viewfinder - Compatible with the 18-50 and 24-80 the DF-E1 Electronic Viewfinder, which serves as a convenient alternative to the rear screen when working in bright lighting conditions- No info on price or availability yet. Do you think any of these cameras has a chance of dethroning Sony's RX 100 or RX10 series? let me know in the comments.
Along with the new 50-100 f/1.8 and the 30mm f/1.4 DN announced last night - Sigma has also announced at Mount Converter - Similar to the Metabones and Commlite adapters - this adapter/converter whatever you want to call it allows you to use Sigma's lenses designed for Canon EF on Sony E- Mount with full electronic control. Price is just $249. This is exciting! As A sony owner I also happen to have a few Sigma lenses and can tell you that both the commlite and metabones adapters provide a poor experience with the Sigma lenses - especially the commlite, I wouldn't even call it functioning - loses connection constantly. Hopefully having an adapter direct from Sigma will provide much better results with Sigma lenses.Preorder from B&H Photo for $249.00Full press release from Sigma below.
New Sigma Global Vision Lens Mount Converter Expands High-Performance Lens Options for Sony CamerasBrings Sigma’s Global Vision Lenses to the Sony E-Mount Camera FamilyKANAGAWA, JAPAN – February 23, 2016 – Sigma Corporation of America, a leading DSLR lens, camera, flash and accessories manufacturer, today announced the release of its new high-performance Sigma Global Vision lens converter – the Mount Converter MC11 – for Sony E-mount, full frame and APS-C sensor cameras. With the new MC-11, Sony camera users will be able to utilize 19 Global Vision lenses in Sigma Canon Mount (EOS) and Sigma Mount (SA).“There are many challenges to designing high-quality mount converter and topping the list is aptly handling phase detection AF in newer cameras and this is where the Sigma MC-11 is groundbreaking in its support for the Sony E-mount systems,” states Mark Amir-Hamzeh, president of Sigma Corporation of America. “The new Sigma MC-11 mitigates complications with a purpose-built lens control data system engineered for maintaining superior AF functionality. So the growing number of Sony E-mount camera users who have been asking for more lens options, now have access to a large pool of lenses that fully embody Sigma’s signature quality and performance.”The Sigma MC-11’s sleek LED display lets Sony users know if the attached Sigma lens is compatible and whether or not the MC-11 needs to be updated for that specific lens. Its internal control data system keeps detailed information on each compatible Sigma lens, automatically optimizing performance of AF drive, aperture control and other critical lens functions. The MC-11’s internal control data system also maintains continuity with key camera functions that control brightness and correct transverse chromatic aberration, distortion, and more. The complete compatibility with both Sigma lens OS and Sony in-camera OS ensures correction of camera shake and other stability issues and when used with in-camera stabilization, MC-11 allows angle shake correction in the lens. The integrated flocking helps prevent internal reflections and reduction in lens performance. In addition, the MC-11 retains important EXIF data ensuring users can analyze every detail of their lens setting. The Sigma MC-11 converter can be updated with the latest compatible lens information from a workstation or laptop using the Sigma Optimization Pro software and Sigma USB Dock (sold separately). For information on the Sigma MC-11 converter please visit www.sigmaphoto.com/mount-converter-mc-11.
We have Sigma's press release below - The 50-100 f/1.8 at $1099 is an interesting lens, certainly one of the more expensive APS-C lenses but still way below the cost of something like the 70-200 f/2.8 and likely providing better performance on an APS-C camera. B&H has the Phantom 2 Quadcopter v2.0 with Zenmuse H4-3D Gimbal Kit for just $399 today!! This is a pro level drone with an awesome gimbal. The gimbal is what makes or breaks your aerial footage, cheap drones don't have them and you have jerky and barely watchable video from those drones. Drones with quality gimbals produce amazingly smooth video- even if it is your first flight. I am living proof seriously when you let go of the controls the drone uses GPS and the gimbal to just hold in place. You can see some footage I shot in 2014 in Italy with similar gimbal setup- my first time flying and it is rock solid! Why is the drone so cheap? You need to supply your own GoPro Hero 4. And that is of course something you can use off the drone too for underwater, timelapse or just a tiny go anywhere camera.Buy from B&H Photo for $399Some example footage from an older drone with similar gimbal.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5nHF72PDkI

Truthfully one new and one updated. Tamron has announced the
Tamron SP 85mm f/1.8 Di VC USD
NEW Tamron 85 f/1.8 VC - This looks similar to their other recent lens offerings - the 35mm and 45mm f/1.8 VC lenses that have been well liked by photographers

Price and availability have not yet been announced. B&H Listing to Notify when in Stock I bet somewhere around $600 USD. Canon offers the 85mm f/1.8 non stabilized that is a staple in many budget photographers bag- it is a decent lens, costs just $369 and while it suffers from some serious chromatic aberration wide open and it certainly could be more contrasty - it is under $400. I do think this new Tamron will be noticeable sharper and of course offers VC. I am not convinced that it will see well though. Nikon offers two 85mm lenses - an 85mm f/1.8 for $469 and an 85mmf/1.4 for $1560.
Tamron 90mm f/2.8 SP Di MACRO 1:1 VC
And the Updated 90 f/2.8 Macro - I am a bit surprised- their current 90mm Macro is a great value and holds up well against the competition - see below for the updates to this model.

Canon T6i(750d)/T6s(760D) vs Canon 70D/80D
Canon 70D/80D offers the following benefits:
Dual Pixel AF system- Faster and more competent focusing system for video or live view
Small, medium and full size raw. T6s only allows full size raw images. Having smaller sizes is nice for shooting time lapse.
Pentaprism viewfinder (larger and brighter view)
1/8000 top shutter speed (1/4000 in T6s)
1/250 flash sync (1/200 in T6s)
Micro focus adjustments possible with 70D/80D - these let you correct for AF issues with lenses getting sharper images
Double the battery life. (920 shots vs 440 in T6s)
Weather sealing
Image & Video Quality
*What is the focus speed of the Hybrid CMOS III system like vs the excellent Dual Pixel AF of the 70D?
ANSWER - The updates to live view are noticeable - the camera is faster and smoother when focusing. Still not quite the speed of the Canon 70D and the 70D still does better with non STM lenses. The 80D further improves on speed and tracking AND increases compatibility with ALL EF-S lenses.
80D offers the following advantages over the 70D
45 cross type AF points- 70D/t6s/t6i only offer 19 cross type
27 points still work at f/8 - this is excellent news for wildlife photographers combining telephoto lenses and teleconverters.
Improved Dual Pixel AF system- better coverage across frame and improved speed and tracking capabilities.
Live view photography- 5 frames per second with AF tracking. Not possible in the 70D
1080p at 60fps (only 30fps in 70D)
Slightly better battery life 960 shots vs 920 in 70D - note - need to use new LP-E6N batteries
We now have HDR Movie mode and Miniature movie mode in the 80D - not offered in 70D
Time lapse movie mode.
Canon T6s (760d) offers the following benefits:
HDR Video and Miniature movie mode (not serious benefits but something that the T6s offers that the 70D does not offer. 80D does.
Smaller & lighter - there isn't a big difference but it is noticeable.

Thoughts on the T6i vs T6s
Both cameras share the exact same sensor and produce exactly the same image. They also share the same focusing system with the T6s providing AF Servo in live view allowing you to track and keep in focus a subject when shooting stills with live view.No dual pixel AF (like 70D) in either camera but AF is improved, Canon reports that the performance of Hybrid CMOS AF III approaches that of Dual Pixel CMOS AF and I found this to be true in my testing. Focus is faster and the cameras do better with non STM lenses in live view / video. Both offer a silent shooting mode and flicker detection. The big difference between the T6i and the T6s is the top LCD and rear dial – this gives you better manual control and at a glance access to your current settings, again helpful for shooting manual or anytime when you really care about your settings and gives the camera just a little more room for the enthusiast photographer to grow. Additional benefits of the T6s include horizontal level guide, HDR video, digital zoom and miniature movie mode. The rear dial and top LCD alone are worth the difference in price if you desire a more professional feel in this size camera. The T6s (760D) offers the following benefits
Top LCD
Rear command dial
Horizontal guide
Proximity sensor (turns LCD screen off when you bring your eye to the view finder)
AF Servo in live view

Featuring a newly developed 24.2 megapixel Canon CMOS imaging sensor, both cameras deliver the highest resolution available amongst EOS models with an APS-C format sensor. Additionally, the cameras feature built-in Wi-Fi® and NFC™ capabilities – a first for the Canon EOS Rebel system – making snapping and sharing high-quality, treasured images seamless.“The Canon EOS Rebel series is one of the most popular lines of DSLR cameras on the market, and we are proud to continue to innovate and upgrade this line with features such as wireless connectivity and improved image capture capabilities,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “As the popularity of this line grows with consumers, we’re excited to launch the EOS Rebel T6s as our new flagship camera in the Rebel line, as well as have another budget-conscious offering in the line with the Rebel T6i.”With multiple features most commonly found in advanced amateur cameras, the EOS Rebel T6s is designed for photography enthusiasts, or those who are already experienced with entry-level cameras who want to take high-quality photos and videos, and look for more advanced features and functions. For more casual photography needs, or for users looking to purchase their first DSLR camera, the EOS Rebel T6i camera prioritizes affordability, without sacrificing basic SLR performance attributes like quick shutter response, and compatibility with Canon’s impressive line of interchangeable lenses and accessories.Outstanding Image Capture FeaturesThe new EOS Rebel cameras have an extensive ISO range of 100-12800 (expandable to 25600) to accommodate shooting situations ranging from bright sunny days at the beach to dimly lit indoor dance recitals. The high-performance DIGIC 6 image processor helps provide outstanding image quality and speed, so pictures are clear and sharp.Building on the image capture functionality of their predecessors, the EOS Rebel T6s and EOS Rebel T6i cameras feature Canon’s new Hybrid CMOS AF III image sensor-embedded autofocus system, which allows for high levels of speed and accuracy when capturing Full HD video or high-resolution photos in Live View. This is particularly useful when capturing children playing sports, or animals in the wild, when it’s imperative to get the shot at the exact moment action is happening. Helping photographers capture those special moments, the cameras have high-speed continuous shooting up to five frames-per-second (fps). For photographers who prefer to compose their images through a viewfinder, the new EOS Rebel T6s and EOS Rebel T6i cameras have a 19-point all cross-type AF system that allows for superb autofocus, as well as focus area selection modes.Brand-new to the EOS Rebel line, the cameras feature built-in wireless capabilities, which allow users to wirelessly transfer images and videos with ease to compatible smartphones and tablets through Canon’s newly updated and free Camera Connect app.2 Images and videos can also be shared wirelessly to a wide range of popular social networking sites through Canon iMAGE GATEWAY. 3 The camera’s built-in NFC (Near Field Communication)4 allows quick and simple pairing to a compatible Android device, or devices that support NFC like the new Canon Connect Station CS100 photo and video storage and sharing device. The built-in Wi-Fi functionality also allows users to wirelessly print their images to any compatible printer, like the PIXMA MG7520 or PIXMA iP8720.With an intuitive design that allows for an optimal photographic experience, the new EOS Rebel cameras have a three-inch Vari-Angle Touch Screen Clear View LCD monitor with approximately 1,040,000 dots. This design enables flexible positioning for high or low framed shots, as well as clear viewing even when outdoors in the sunlight. Additionally, the cameras feature the latest version of Canon’s EOS scene analysis system, which helps photographers capture beautiful images in a wider range of situations by detecting near-infrared light and flickering light sources. Also new to the entire EOS system, both models feature color tone detection, which helps ensure individuals in photographs are properly focused and/or exposed by adjusting both autofocus and exposure metering.Full HD Video CaptureThe EOS Rebel T6s and EOS Rebel T6i cameras feature EOS Movie mode which captures Full HD 1080p resolution video up to 30 fps in MP4 format for high quality shooting and easy movie sharing on select social networking sites. Manual exposure control, digital zoom and an external stereo microphone jack are provided for advanced users using the EOS Rebel T6s.Expanded Creative FunctionalityAllowing for full creative control, the new EOS Rebel cameras offer creative filters available as presets for photos and movies. These filters can be displayed in real time during Live View shooting, providing an easy way for users to enhance their creative work. Users can further expand their artistic abilities right from the camera with Creative Filters such as Fisheye Effect, Toy Camera Effect and Monochrome mode. Fisheye Effect gives images a panoramic look and feel, Toy Camera Effect adds a grainy look to soften photos, illustrating a vintage appearance and with Monochrome mode, photos can either have black-and-white, blue or sepia tones, to display a more classic appearance.Advanced Features & CapabilitiesFor photographers who desire more advanced features, the EOS Rebel T6s is the first EOS Rebel class DSLR camera to feature a top LCD panel, Quick Control Dial, Horizontal Level and built-in HDR movie capabilities. The new camera is also the first model in the EOS Rebel series to feature Servo AF in Live View, allowing continuous tracking of moving subjects during burst mode shooting sequences.AvailabilityThe EOS Rebel T6s Digital SLR camera and EOS Rebel T6i Digital SLR camera are scheduled to be available at the end of April 2015. ISO 100-16000
flickerless shooting (adopted from the 7D Mark II) - this enables more consistent exposures in gym/arena lighting
Finder is 100% field of view - up from 98% with the 70D
3 inches vari-angle touch screen LCD monitor.- The same as 70D
1080p 60 fps - Up from 30fps with the 70D and on par with 7D Mark II
Time-lapse movie & additional creative filters for video - Something Canon finally started adding with the 5DS series.
Wi-Fi, NFC - remote shooting by smartphone - I doubt this will include video start and stop- probably only photo remote control as you can do now with 70D.
Dial of the 70D compared to the 80D - really the only exterior difference I can find other than the viewfinder upgrade.80D looks to add Custom 1 AND Custom 2 to the dial along with filters for video (possibly) (between SCN and C2)These look like decent upgrades - nothing ground breaking and compared to other options, like the newly announced a6300, this looks like Canon is still behind the curve but if you have a rebel, and a few canon lenses this does represent a decent upgrade and a solid hybrid camera - video and photo capable. The 80D will be bundled with a NEW 18-135 lens - no longer STM - But USM with a new designation of NANO USM. I suspect this allows for the continued smooth and silent focusing that STM provided but with additional speed to support the faster AF system in live view/dual pixel AF What do you think of these specs? Enough to warrant an upgrade from a 70D? How about T5i or even T6i/T6s owners? The battery grip offered on the page is the same as the 70D- as we suspected the body is identical and use of the 70D battery grip is possible.Preorder Available from B&H Photo Expected at the end of March.Canon EOS 80D DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens $1,799Canon EOS 80D DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens $1,349Canon EOS 80D Body Only $1,199Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens $599And if you wished your DSLR was more like a camcorder you can addCanon PZ-E1 Power Zoom Adapter for just $149
Pentax officially announced their first full frame camera. Packed with technology and teased for the last year we now get an official look, price and release date.Pentax K-1 DSLR Camera - Available April 5 for $1,796.95 - Preorder from B&H Photo
36.4MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor
PRIME IV Image Processor
3.2" Cross-Tilt LCD Monitor (this looks cool- see photo below)
Full HD 1080p30 Video Recording (not 1080p60 is a bit disappointing but not a deal breaker)
SAFOX 12 33-Point AF Sensor
Native ISO 204800; 4.5 fps Shooting
5-Axis In-Body Shake Reduction (excellent)
Super Resolution & AstroTracer Modes (Uses the Sensor Stabilization to do COOL stuff)
Built-In Wi-Fi & GPS; Dual SD Card Slots
Weather-Sealed Magnesium Alloy Body
This camera looks excellent - especially for landscape and astrophotography (star filled skies) Why? The camera uses the GPS and the in-body camera stabilization system to move the camera’s sensor during lengthy exposures so as to mimic the earth’s rotation and capture celestial objects such as stars and planets as points of light rather than elongated trails. Typically when photographing the stars you need to follow the 500 rule. Simply- you need to keep your shutter speed below a certain number to avoid the dots of the stars turning into smears. Being limited to shorter shutter means you need to raise your ISO and/or use a wide aperture. And this is all with wide angle lenses. With a telephoto your shutter speed needs to be even shorter - making it difficult to capture detailed celestial objects like the Magellanic clouds.Depending on your location in the world you can use the Astrotracer function to beat the 500 rule and shoot for as long as 5 minutes!!An additional trick for higher resolution landscapes - Super Resolution mode that composites multiple images together for maximum sharpness and reduced noise, again using the sensor shift technology to accomplish this!It will also use the in-body IS to help you level the horizon!Pentax has always provided excellent value cameras and while the lenses selection might not be as large as Canon or Nikon they have a decent collection and even this full frame camera has 9 lenses available including what looks to be a nice wide angle 15-30 f/2.8 lens that perfectly compliments the body features that make this camera awesome for shooting starry night skies. So why does Pentax(owned by Ricoh) have such a small market share? About 7% in 2015. I don't know - bad marketing, perceived lack of lenses? If you have better ideas leave the comments below. The end result is while these cameras are often excellent values - providing excellent image quality, feature packed in quality made bodies - the general ecosystem feels much smaller and I think this prevents consumer purchase/market growth.A few additional points- small white LED lighting makes operating this camera in the dark easier - lit buttons and lens mount make me feel like this camera has everything the astrophotographer could want - also happens to be weather sealed and offered with weather sealed lenses.
Are you interested? Let me know in the comments. It certainly is priced competively and as mentioned above I expect the sensor to produce excellent images. The first camera I would actually compare this too is the Sony A7II which also offers a full frame stabilized sensor - though none of the neat tricks the Pentax offers. Also announced Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR Lens - Just $499Pentax K-1 DSLR Camera - Available April 5 for $1,796.95 - Preorder from B&H Photo
The 80D will be announced VERY soon - Digicame has the spec list and I believe it to be 100% correct
24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor (more than the 20MP from the 7D Mark II)
Dual pixel CMOS AF
Continuous shooting 7 frames / sec - Live view 5 frames / sec. (AF tracking)
AF 45 points (all points cross type) 7D mark II has 65 Cross type. 70D has 19.
7560 pixel RGB + IR metering sensor
ISO 100-16000

So different from almost all the rest of the manufacturers that release at least some additional modest functionality via firmware. What do you think of these specs? Enough to warrant an upgrade from a 70D? How about T5i or even T6i/T6s owners?

Tips
Just don’t randomly buy a hard drive to throw photos on and call it a day. As Seagate is being hit with a class action suit over its faulty 3tb drives make sure you buy a reliable brand for storing those photos. If you're going to buy a drive, Western Digital and HGST (formerly Hitachi) are the best brands to get in terms of reliability. Even now you can get Western Digital USB 3.0 external drives that will run RAID which is a system to mirror your data over multiple hard drives in case one of them fail.

Sony 4D focusing systemSony FAST focusing during videoFocus Trackinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqY0YKmVuD0The new sony a6300 is capable of 120FPS at 1080p
The argument that sony doesn't offer enough professional lenses for their full frame mirrorless system just vanished into thin air with the HUGE announcement of three seriously professional lenses (with serious professional prices to match). These lenses are compatible with the Sony a7 series of cameras and the a6000 crop series cameras including the newly announced a6300.
More at B&H Photo The 24-70 f/2.8 and the 70-200 f/2.8 provide wedding photographers and event photographers with the two staple lenses. I expect these lenses to be sharp and extremely well built. Along with the 85mm f/1.4 and the additional lens offerings like the Batis series Sony now has the lenses and the bodies to really start attracting professionals in numbers that should scare the pants of Canon and Nikon. I am not saying this is all a perfect system - see my discussion of why I don't love shooting with the Sony a7RII at weddings but this does make the entire system much more appealing. I'd love to hear your thoughts and don't complain about the price- they are comparable to the Canon and Nikon offerings.More about the newly announced A6300.
